Foreign National Beaten To Death By Marchers In Durban CBD
KwaZulu-Natal police have opened a murder investigation after a foreign national was allegedly beaten to death by a group of marchers in the Durban CBD on Thursday morning, 22 October 2026.
The victim, believed to be an African man in his late 30s or early 40s, was declared dead at the scene.
According to reports, a group was marching along Dr Pixley kaSeme Street, formerly West Street, towards Maud Mfusi Street when two men broke away from the march and approached the victim, who was standing on the roadside. He was then allegedly assaulted by a group of about 50 people.
The incident was captured on camera, which allegedly shows the two men speaking to the victim before he was found with head injuries.
No arrests have been reported. Police are following several leads and using available investigative methods to identify those responsible. The motive for the killing remains unknown.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the Durban CBD following recent anti-migrant protests.
On 8 October, violent clashes in the city centre left at least 14 vehicles burnt, shops looted and buildings damaged.
Authorities have not confirmed whether Thursday’s killing is connected to the recent protests. The murder investigation is ongoing.
