Mashatile urges Limpopo to turn R452 billion investment pledges into jobs

POLOKWANE – Deputy President Paul Mashatile has called on Limpopo to accelerate the implementation of investment commitments, saying the province must translate billions of rands in pledges into operational projects, job opportunities and improved living conditions for communities.

Mashatile was delivering the keynote address at the Limpopo Investment Conference 2026 at The Ranch Resort in Polokwane on Thursday, 15 October.

He said the province had secured more than R452 billion in investment pledges, with investments exceeding R71 billion already implemented, contributing to the creation of nearly 24 000 jobs.

Speaking under the theme “From Pledges to Progress: Accelerating Implementation and Unlocking Investment in Limpopo”, Mashatile emphasised that the success of the conference would be measured by tangible economic outcomes rather than announcements alone.

He identified mining and mineral beneficiation, agriculture, agro-processing, manufacturing, logistics and renewable energy as key sectors capable of driving economic growth and employment in the province.

He welcomed the launch of the InvestSA One Stop Shop in Limpopo, which is intended to provide investors with easier access to government services, reduce administrative barriers and accelerate project implementation.

The Deputy President further called for greater local processing of mineral resources and agricultural products to strengthen domestic industries, expand exports and create sustainable jobs.

Mashatile said investment should also benefit small businesses, cooperatives, township enterprises and local suppliers to ensure that economic growth reaches communities.

As South Africa prepares for the November Local Government Elections, he underscored the importance of capable, accountable and developmental municipalities in delivering services and creating an environment conducive to investment.

“The task before us now is implementation,” Mashatile said, calling for accountability and decisive action to turn investment pledges into lasting economic opportunities.

He said investment must ultimately create jobs, support entrepreneurs, restore hope and improve the quality of life of the people of Limpopo and South Africa as a whole.
