Mudzinganyama Case Postponed As State Hands Over Docket

The case against Lawrence Chamurwa Mudzinganyama, 40, has been postponed to 30 October 2026 for a trial date to be set after the State handed the defence the full contents of the docket.

The matter has been transferred to the Regional Court at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court for further proceedings. Mudzinganyama faces three counts of intimidation, three counts of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, three counts of crimen injuria and one count of fraud.

The charges stem from an alleged incident on 18 September 2026 at Vlamo Restaurant at Sandton Gate in Randburg.

According to the State, Mudzinganyama allegedly entered the women’s restroom and demanded to photograph one of the witnesses. He is also accused of threatening three witnesses with violence and death.

The crimen injuria charges relate to allegations that he insulted the complainants and impaired their dignity by using a derogatory name in front of other people. The fraud charge stems from an allegation that he falsely presented himself as the lawful owner of the restaurant.

Mudzinganyama was arrested on 20 September 2026 at the Randburg Police Station. He was initially released on a warning on a single intimidation charge, but further investigations, including witness statements and video footage, led to additional charges.

The Zimbabwean businessman and former executive chairman of Moriel Infrastructure Group first appeared in court on 1 October 2026, when he was granted R15,000 bail.

His bail conditions include reporting weekly to the Randburg Police Station, having no contact with witnesses or Vlamo staff, surrendering his passport and remaining in Gauteng.

The defence requested additional time to consult with the accused. The court postponed the matter to 30 October 2026 for a trial date to be determined, and his bail was extended.

The case attracted widespread attention after a video circulated online showing Mudzinganyama confronting a group of women at the restaurant. Reports surrounding the incident indicated that the confrontation followed the alleged rejection of his advances.

In the video, he is heard making threats, including statements such as, “I’ll put a bllet in all of you” and “I’ll muder you now and walk.”

Mudzinganyama later issued a public apology. Vlamo Restaurant has also stated that he was not affiliated with the establishment.
