Overturned Bus Trailer Causes Major Disruption on N1 South Entering Polokwane
Traffic Delays Expected as Authorities Work to Clear Busy Route
Motorists travelling into Polokwane on Sunday faced significant disruption after a bus luggage trailer overturned on the N1 South, blocking part of one of Limpopo’s busiest transport routes.
The incident occurred on the southbound carriageway near Heymans Kole, creating a hazardous obstruction for vehicles entering Polokwane from the Louis Trichardt (Makhado) direction.
Authorities say the trailer became detached from a cross-border passenger bus before overturning and coming to rest across the roadway. The incident immediately raised concerns about traffic congestion and road safety as motorists approached the affected stretch of highway.
At the time of publication, the Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety had not confirmed whether the bus involved was travelling to a destination outside South Africa.
Traffic officers were dispatched to the scene and are currently managing vehicle flow while emergency response teams and towing services work to remove the overturned trailer.
Drivers travelling through the area have been urged to exercise extreme caution, reduce speed and comply with all instructions issued by traffic officials.
The blockage has already resulted in traffic delays, with authorities warning that congestion could worsen as recovery operations continue.
Officials have appealed to motorists to remain patient and cooperate with emergency personnel as efforts are made to restore normal traffic conditions on the route.
The N1 serves as a critical transport corridor connecting Limpopo to other parts of South Africa and neighbouring countries, making any obstruction along the route a significant concern for travellers and freight operators alike.
Further updates are expected once recovery teams have successfully cleared the roadway and traffic movement returns to normal.
