Mamelodi Sundowns could not find their rhythm in Angola, and their stand-in keeper Ricardo Goss has explained why.
Masandawana came up against a Wiliete wall at Estadio Nacionale da Tundavala on Sunday.
The Tshwane giants struggled to play their usual slick, attacking football, and the 0-0 draw leaves the second preliminary round tie wide open.
Goss, who started in place of the injured Ronwen Williams, admitted it was a tough afternoon.
“It was a difficult game; obviously they are a big team here, and I think they are top of the log in their league,” he told the Sundowns media team.
He also pointed to the conditions. “But the pitch also didn’t help us, with the rain just before the game, but I think we can take the 0-0 to Loftus.”
Sundowns now need a win in front of their own fans on Friday to reach the group stage.
The defending Champions League winners are determined to defend their continental crown, and the pressure is firmly on.
Goss returned to Chloorkop in the off-season after his loan at Siwelele FC expired.
Since coming back, he has made two appearances in all competitions, and he wants more minutes as the fixtures pile up.
Sundowns will however be hoping Williams and Aubrey Modiba are fit for selection after missing the trip to Angola. There is also concern over Teboho Mokoena, who was stretched off the field with an injury.
