The Federation warns that such decisions silence reporters, embolden those who spread prejudice, and create a chilling effect in newsrooms. When extreme claims go unchallenged, they not only distort history but also fuel hostility toward Jewish South Africans and other minorities.

The Holocaust was a unique crime against humanity. Using it as a political comparison, SAZF argues, is not only misleading but harmful, turning tragedy into a rhetorical weapon.

SAZF is calling on the SABC to review its decision, issue an apology, and reaffirm that newsroom standards must be set by editors, not external pressure. They also urge South Africa’s media bodies to defend journalists who uphold professional standards and protect press freedom without fear or favour.

South Africans deserve a broadcaster that informs with integrity and courage – not one that bends to intimidation.
