The couple, who met on Big Brother Mzansi Season 3 and quickly became fan favourites, announced their separation on Saturday — sending shockwaves across social media.

Their love story, which blossomed in front of millions of viewers, had positioned them as one of South Africa’s most admired young couples. From reality TV romance to marriage and television appearances, including roles on Generations: The Legacy, their journey appeared picture-perfect — until now.

Breaking her silence, Thato took to social media with an emotional statement, revealing that the relationship had reached a breaking point.

“I would like to address something personal and important. After three years of marriage, Gashwan Brandon Mthombeni and I are no longer together,” she said.

She revealed that recent incidents — which she described as “irreconcilable” — forced her to make the difficult decision to walk away.

“Following incidents that happened the past few days that are irreconcilable by my standards and values, I have made the decision to walk away.”

Thato confirmed that both families have already met to address the situation, and that her decision has been clearly communicated in his presence.

Despite the split, she urged the public not to turn the situation into a social media battle.

“I respectfully ask that this does not turn into a Thato vs Gash1 battle. We met, fell in love, and tried building a family to the best of our abilities.”

In a deeply personal moment, she admitted the emotional toll of the breakup, especially as a mother.

“I am heartbroken, but I need to soldier on and continue working.”

She also opened up about the painful reality of raising her child alone — something she never envisioned.

“I would have never wanted to raise my child alone. However, there are certain non-negotiables I cannot compromise on. I will not betray myself.”

Thato made it clear that this would be her final statement, confirming she will not be engaging further publicly on the matter.

“Moving forward, it will just be me and my baby, and I am fully focused on building a healthy, happy future for us.”

While the relationship has come to an end, she emphasised that Gash1 remains the father of her child.

The announcement has sparked widespread reactions online, with fans expressing shock, heartbreak, and support for both parties as one of Mzansi’s most loved couples goes their separate ways.

A family in Mamelodi is reeling from heartbreak after two young women, Tshiamo Moramaga, 22, and her cousin Baleseng Moramaga, 21, were found shot dead early Sunday morning.

The tragedy unfolded in Mamelodi East, Extension 17, leaving their loved ones shattered and desperate for answers.

Tshiamo’s mother, 41-year-old Itumeleng Moramaga, described the moment her world fell apart. Speaking through tears, she said she received a call from her sister telling her something had happened to the girls. She rushed from her home in Tembisa, only to be met with the devastating news that both had been killed.

“When I arrived, they were already in the forensic van. I asked to see them… and when I did, I saw it was really them. They had been shot,” she said, her voice breaking.

Tshiamo and Baleseng had lived together in a rented room nearby. Neighbours told the family they heard an argument followed by gunshots around 4 a.m. Some said Tshiamo may have been arguing with her boyfriend before the shots rang out.

A message reportedly found on Baleseng’s phone showed the cousins had been texting shortly before the shooting. Tshiamo’s phone, however, was missing.

“They grew up together like twins,” Itumeleng said softly. “They went to crèche together, dressed the same, did everything together.”

Tshiamo had been studying beauty therapy and hairdressing, while Baleseng was a third-year education student at UNISA.

“She was my only daughter,” her mother said. “Now she’s gone, and I’m left with two sons. The pain I feel — I wouldn’t wish it on anyone, not even my worst enemy.”

The family has called for justice, urging police to find whoever is responsible for the brutal murders. “Women and children are being killed every day. We need answers. We need justice for them,” Itumeleng said.

Police confirmed that the two victims had died from gunshot wounds to the head and that a double murder case has been opened. The motive for the killings remains unknown.

As the investigation continues, the Mamelodi community has been left mourning two young lives taken far too soon — cousins who grew up inseparable, now gone together in a moment of senseless violence.

What began as a hopeful romance for a 39-year-old Limpopo woman ended in heartbreak, betrayal, and financial ruin. Two foreign nationals—28-year-old Serage Martin Lubenga and 33-year-old Rhoda Mirembe—have each been sentenced to 20 years in prison after orchestrating a cruel dating scam that left their victim emotionally devastated and R650,000 poorer.

The woman, whose identity is protected, met Lubenga in 2023. He introduced himself simply as “Martin.” Their relationship blossomed quickly, with Martin gaining her trust. As she confided her financial struggles, Martin offered help—by connecting her to a prophet named “Alice,” later identified as Rhoda Mirembe.

Desperate for a breakthrough, the woman attended prayer sessions led by Mirembe, who once arrived in a flashy BMW and produced a suitcase full of fake money, claiming it contained R4 million. To access the supposed fortune, Mirembe told her she needed to pay 10% upfront. Believing in the promise of a better future, the woman raised and handed over R650,000—money she had borrowed from the bank.

The scammers didn’t stop there. They also collected her personal documents, claiming they would pray over them for a job promotion. Only when the promised miracle never came did she realise the horrible truth: she had been used and defrauded. She reported the case to the Hawks, who arrested the pair in Potchefstroom.

Investigators later uncovered that the duo had used the stolen funds to finance a lavish lifestyle, including renting luxury properties and acquiring high-end vehicles like a BMW X6, Range Rover, and two Mercedes-Benz cars—now seized as proceeds of crime.

Last week, the court sentenced Lubenga and Mirembe to a combined 15 years of direct imprisonment for two counts of fraud and one of corruption. They were also declared unfit to possess firearms.

Limpopo Hawks’ head, Major General Gopz Govender, praised the team’s tireless efforts in bringing justice to the victim. Still, the case serves as a stark reminder of how love and trust can be dangerously manipulated by those with criminal intent.
