Two ANC members killed, three injured in Umgababa campaign shooting
Two African National Congress (ANC) members have been shot and killed, while three others were injured during a door-to-door election campaign in Umgababa on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast today, Thursday.
The three injured members are reportedly fighting for their lives in hospital following the shooting.
Police attended the scene after the group came under fire while canvassing households in the area, according to eyewitnesses who spoke to Eyewitness News.
ANC eThekwini regional coordinator Thanduxolo Sabelo also commented on the incident following the shooting.
The attack comes amid concerns about political violence in KwaZulu-Natal ahead of the 2026 local government elections. Umgababa has previously been affected by political violence, including the killing of ANC branch convener and former councillor Sipho Simiso Dlamini in February 2026.
Police have yet to confirm the motive for Thursday’s shooting, and no arrests have been reported.
The circumstances surrounding the attack remain under investigation.
