Eastern Cape Health Department Probes Claims EMS Ambulance Was Used to Ferry Voters

The Eastern Cape Department of Health has launched an urgent investigation following serious allegations that an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) ambulance was compromised and used to ferry voters to polling stations during today’s local government elections.

The department issued a swift media statement on Wednesday evening to address the swirling controversy, firmly reminding the public and staff members that government medical vehicles are strictly reserved for healthcare emergencies.

Officials explicitly noted that fleet assets are completely barred from being utilized for political campaigning, party mobilization, or general passenger transportation.

According to provincial health authorities, EMS personnel had been deployed to various high-traffic zones and areas surrounding voting stations across the Eastern Cape.

The intended purpose of this deployment was strictly to guarantee rapid-response medical assistance to citizens waiting in long queues and to maintain safety standards throughout the voting process.

“The Department takes these allegations seriously and has instituted an investigation to establish the facts surrounding the incident,” stated Siyanda Manana, Head of Communications for the Eastern Cape Department of Health.

Opposition parties and independent election monitoring groups have previously raised concerns over the potential abuse of state resources during highly contested local government races.

Provincial authorities have committed to making the findings of the investigation public once the facts have been verified.
