Malema Calls for Left-Wing Alliance: Urges MK, EFF, SACP, and ANC to Unite Against 'The Enemy'

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has issued a passionate call for left-wing political alignment in South Africa, urging the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party, the African National Congress (ANC), and the South African Communist Party (SACP) to consolidate their forces and reject what he terms as the “enemies” of black economic progress.

Speaking fresh off the back of the highly contested November 2026 Local Government Elections, Malema emphasized that the fractured state of left-leaning and progressive organizations has only served to strengthen conservative and center-right rivals, such as the Democratic Alliance (DA) and ActionSA.

Malema strongly criticized the ANC’s ongoing cooperation with the DA within the Government of National Unity (GNU), arguing that it has disillusioned traditional voters and fragmented the progressive base.

According to the EFF leader, the only viable future for South Africa lies in a unified front composed of organizations sharing a common ideological commitment to land redistribution, public services, and the total upliftment of the working class.

Political observers note that Malema’s call comes at a crucial turning point, as final municipal election results indicate a major shift in voter dynamics.

The Jacob Zuma-led MK Party has rapidly climbed to become the third-largest political player, effectively pushing the EFF down to fourth position nationally. Concurrently, the SACP made history by contesting these municipal elections independently of the ANC banner.

With hung councils across South Africa’s major metropolitan areas triggering urgent coalition talks, Malema warned that continued infighting among black progressive parties would leave local governance entirely in the hands of historic adversaries.

Whether the ANC leadership will heed Malema’s call to abandon its GNU partners in favor of a left-wing coalition remains a key point of uncertainty in ongoing power-sharing negotiations.
