OTM PRESIDENT OPENS CASE AGAINST MOGALAKWENA ACTING MUNICIPAL MANAGER

MOKOPANE: Political Party president Victor Mokonyane has opened a case against Mogalakwena Local Municipality’s Acting Municipal Manager, Lionel Mashishi, at Mokopane Police Station, while the case of the municipal suspended Municipal Manager Morris Maluleka is ongoing at the local Magistrate court.

Maluleke is facing alleged fraud, corruption and money-laundering relating to a municipal fleet contract.

According to information provided by the party, the case was registered on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, with the party President Victor Mokonyane listed as the complainant and Mashishi named in the matter.

The party has called on the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, commonly known as the Hawks, to investigate the matter thoroughly, impartially and without unnecessary delays.

OTM said any further legal action should be taken if the evidence gathered during the investigation warrants it.

“Public office is a responsibility, not a shield from accountability,” the party said, stressing that no individual should be considered above the law, regardless of their position, influence or political connections.

The party said the people of Mogalakwena deserve transparency and answers on matters concerning public administration and the management of public resources.

It further emphasised that concerns involving municipal administration must be dealt with through the appropriate legal processes.

However, the details of the allegations against Mashishi have not been provided, and it remains unclear what specific conduct prompted the complaint.

The opening of a police case does not, in itself, establish wrongdoing. The allegations will need to be investigated, and any further action will depend on the available evidence and the relevant legal processes.

SAPS, the Hawks and Mashishi’s response to the matter had not been provided at the time of publication.

The case places the spotlight on calls for accountability and transparency in Mogalakwena’s municipal administration as the relevant authorities are urged to establish the facts surrounding the complaint.

Meanwhile, Maluleka bail judgement will be handed down on 27 October 2026.
