Suliman Carrim To Appear In Musina Court Over Alleged Attempt To Smuggle Absa Vehicles
North West businessman and former ANC regional treasurer Suliman Carrim is expected to appear in the Musina Magistrate’s Court in Limpopo on Thursday, 22 October 2026, on charges of attempted theft and money laundering linked to an alleged vehicle smuggling scheme.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in Limpopo, Carrim allegedly colluded with his employees to steal two vehicles belonging to Absa by attempting to move them across the border using fraudulent documents.
The case stems from an incident on 22 July 2026, when police intercepted two suspects at the Beitbridge Border Post while they were allegedly attempting to transport the vehicles into Zimbabwe.
The vehicles had reportedly been transported from Mahikeng in North West and were destined for Malawi.
Investigations revealed that fraudulent bank authorisation documents were allegedly used to facilitate the movement of the vehicles, which were still under finance agreements. Both vehicles have since been returned to Absa.
Carrim was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport on 15 October while preparing to board a flight to Dubai. He is already facing charges related to his alleged failure to appear before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
He is also under investigation by the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) over multimillion-rand transport contracts in North West.
The two suspects arrested at Beitbridge remain in custody and are expected to appear in the Musina Regional Court on 27 October 2026.
Investigations into the alleged vehicle theft and use of fraudulent documents are ongoing.
