Ouaddou Slams Pirates Despite 3-0 Cup Rout
Orlando Pirates cruised into the Carling Knockout quarterfinals, but Abdeslam Ouaddou was in no mood to celebrate.
The defending champions beat Milford FC 3-0 at Orlando Amstel Arena on Tuesday night, yet the Moroccan coach said he expected more from his players.
“When I said we need to win things, I was meaning the Champions League and the Betway Premiership,” Ouaddou said. “I am not happy with how some players did tonight.”
His frustration followed a ruthless first half. Pirates led 3-0 at the break and were expected to add more after it, but they never did. Ouaddou had brought Deon Hotto and Ghampani Lungu back into the starting line-up after Friday’s win over African Stars, and the strong side made its mark early.
Thapelo Mokobodi opened the scoring after 15 minutes, latching onto a through-ball and slotting past goalkeeper Siphamandla Hleza for his second goal in two games.
Tshepang Moremi then rounded the goalkeeper to score his sixth of the campaign and added a third before the break.
Milford, in their debut top-flight season, fought back after half-time, but Pirates stayed in control. The visitors also lost 2-0 to the Buccaneers in the league in August.
With Chiefs having beaten TS Galaxy 3-0 also on Tuesday, Saturday’s Soweto Derby now looks even bigger, and Ouaddou will want sharper performances.
