Pakistani National in Court for Fatal Crash of Crime Intelligence Officer
The case against Akilesh Gupta, a Pakistani national accused of knocking down and killing a high-ranking police official, has been postponed by the local magistrate’s court.
Gupta appeared in custody today following a tragic incident at the Lichtenburg Mall, which resulted in the untimely death of Warrant Officer Eunice Nortman. Officer Nortman was a dedicated member of the South African Police Service (SAPS) Crime Intelligence unit.
The matter has been remanded to 6 November 2026. The postponement was granted to allow the state sufficient time to secure a qualified Hindi-speaking interpreter for the accused. Gupta is expected to launch a formal bail application during his next appearance. Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash are ongoing.
