ANC Limpopo replaces error-plagued billboard in Giyani ahead of provincial rally

GIYANI: The African National Congress (ANC) in Limpopo has replaced its controversial billboard at the main entrance to Giyani, following public concern over an incorrect spelling of the Xitsonga language on the campaign signage.

The replacement comes ahead of the party’s Provincial Siyaqoba Rally, scheduled to take place at Peter Mokaba Stadium on 31 October 2026.

ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa is to address, members of the provincial governing party.

The previous billboard drew criticism after the language name was incorrectly spelled, sparking anger among residents who viewed the error as a sign of inadequate attention to the language and its cultural significance.

The billboard had been erected ahead of the 2026 Local Government Elections, placing the ANC’s campaign messaging under scrutiny in an area where Xitsonga is widely spoken.
