Kaizer Chiefs defender Inacio Miguel has put an unexpected spin on the Reeve Frosler and Renaldo Leaner scuffle, and he wants more of it.

The video of the two teammates arguing and having to be separated as they almost came to blows after the first leg against Red Arrows in Zambia almost eclipsed the result itself as it trended on social media. Many saw it as a sign of trouble. But Miguel sees the opposite.

“I saw the incident, and everybody saw it,” he said in Durban on Thursday. “Personally, I’m happy with these kinds of behaviours. We felt the loss.”

The Angolan centre-back insists the clash was not a sign of dressing-room unrest as some have speculated.

“It is not only our supporters who suffer after defeats, we also suffer; we also get disappointed and frustrated with the results.

“Unfortunately, it is something that happened on the field. There is nothing bad happening within the team; it was just a difference of opinions.”

Miguel went further, arguing that this kind of fire is exactly what Chiefs need as they try to turn their results around.

“With the images and footage, people think the exchange was a mess, but it was just a difference of opinions. It is not a problem.

“For me, I see the solution in that kind of behaviour, it shows the passion that we have. Sometimes it is lacking, and I feel that we need more of it. We need more aggression; we need to be more passionate about results.

“Especially when losing a game like this, it is never good. I was happy about that incident, just to tell you that.

“The gents are frustrated, and we have a chance on Friday to change that.”

Chiefs host Red Arrows at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday, needing to overturn a 1-0 deficit after Alassane Diarra’s first-leg goal.
