Duba Buries Galaxy’s Donkey Jibe With Hat-Trick Revenge
Wandile Duba may be young, but he knows revenge is best served hot, and he served it against TS Galaxy.
The Kaizer Chiefs forward fired back after a 3-0 Carling Knockout Cup win at FNB Stadium, ending two weeks of pre-match banter from the Rockets.
It began after the draw, when Galaxy posted a graphic of a donkey wearing the Chiefs crest looking into a mirror and seeing a powerful lion.
Another post appeared to show a lion hunting a zebra, with Chiefs as the prey. Over their pre-match meal, Galaxy even said they would have Amakhosi for supper.
Chairman Tim Sukazi fanned the flames. “They’ve never beaten us, by the way, in a cup match,” he said, reminding Chiefs of Galaxy’s record against them.
He also revealed that Chiefs marketing director Jessica Motaung sent him a WhatsApp message about the donkey post.
The 22-year-old Duba took it all personal, and then put on a masterclass on Tuesday night, scoring a hat-trick that also earned him the Man of the Match award and a R100 000 prize.
“These ones disrespected us a lot in the social media for the past two weeks,” Duba said in a post-match TV interview.
“We knew today that we had to win this game. The donkeys have made them run today and they were nowhere to be seen.”
After the match, Galaxy responded with a photo and quote made famous by former Baroka FC coach Kgoloko Thobejane: “Yerr. Football can kill you.”
Chiefs now await the next round draw as they chase their first silverware since 2024/25. But first comes the Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates at FNB Stadium on Saturday.
