Bloemfontein Flying Squad Bags Suspect with R21k Worth of Suspected Ephedrine
Routine policing by the Bloemfontein Flying Squad led to the swift arrest of a 33-year-old suspect found carrying suspected narcotics over the weekend.
The arrest took place on Saturday, 7 November 2026, at roughly 20:30, while officers were conducting visible policing patrols down Monument Road in Oranjesig.
Officers noticed a man acting suspiciously and intercepted him to conduct a search.
During the search, the team discovered a black plastic bag containing a mysterious powdery substance.
To confirm their suspicions, the Flying Squad summoned a narcotics detection dog from the Bloemfontein K9 Unit.
The K9 reacted positively to the contents of the bag, signaling the clear presence of illicit narcotics.
Police suspect the seized chemical is ephedrine powder, an active agent frequently used in the manufacturing of illicit stimulants.
The confiscated contraband carries an estimated street value of R21,000.
The 33-year-old suspect was immediately detained, and a case of possession of drugs has been officially opened at the Park Road Police Station.
The chemical powder was seized as evidence while investigations continue.
