A 34-year-old Nigerian national was arrested on Saturday afternoon following a successful, intelligence-driven law enforcement operation targeting local drug trafficking networks.

The arrest unfolded during an Operation Shanela initiative by the Makhanda Crime Prevention Unit and Paterson SAPS Vispol, who intercepted a white Volkswagen Up traveling from Gqeberha to Paterson near the Nanaga farm stall.

A search of the vehicle revealed a cache of narcotics with an estimated street value of R12,400, according to the South African Police Service (SAPS). The seizure included: 70 Mandrax tablets, 9 packets of Tik (5g each) and 2 packets of Kat (3.5g each)

The suspect was detained on drug-dealing charges, and the vehicle was confiscated. Sarah Baartman District Commissioner, Major General Thandiswa Kupiso, praised the teams for disrupting local drug networks.
