MATLALA’S ALLEGED FRAUD CASE POSTPONED FOR FURTHER FINANCIAL INVESTIGATIONS
The case against Vusumuzi “Cat” Matlala, his wife, Tsakani Matlala, and co-accused Claudette Masethe and Given Makofane has been postponed to 11 February 2027 for further financial investigations.
The four accused appeared in the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 29 October 2026, in connection with an alleged fraudulent property lease in Waterkloof Heights, Pretoria.
They face two counts of fraud, two counts of uttering and one count of forgery. Matlala faces an additional charge of contravening the Identification Act.
The State alleges that in January 2025, the accused acted with a common purpose by falsifying documents to secure a lease agreement for the property through a real estate agent. The property was reportedly advertised at a rental cost of R95,000 per month.
Matlala is further accused of unlawfully possessing an identity document issued in the name of Vusumuzi Dlamini between 13 and 21 January 2025. The document allegedly purported to associate him with the Eswatini Royal House and was allegedly used in connection with securing the lease.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana said the State requires additional time to investigate the financial records of all four accused, describing the process as lengthy and complex.
The matter returns to court on 11 February 2027 for further proceedings.
